What is a Call to Action (CTA) and why is it important on a website?

Every website needs a strong call to action however many business owners don’t know what a call to action is or why it’s important. A  proper call to action will provide the user, reader or web visitor with direction and focus on your site.

A simple and clear CTA is an easy way to measure the success of your website.

Call to Actions can be measured by the following:

  • Phone Calls
  • Email inputs
  • Newsletters
  • Quotes

We’ve made a quick list of the top 3 things that will provide your customers with the best Call to Action.

1. Simplicity –

The key is to keep your call to actions clear and simple. The use of urgent language such as buy, register, signup, free and call now will clearly tell your users what you want them to do.

2. Placement –

The position of your CTA is also an important factor. Keep in mind that while you may be viewing sites on a huge 27′ LED monitor, the standard resolution for most people is 1024 x 768. What may look centered to you at 1920 x 1080 may not be what the end user sees.

Keep the CTA ‘above the fold’ or have multiple CTA’s on your site.

3. Visibility –

Call to actions do not need to be limited to just your home page. We feel that every page of your site should have some form of CTA that will lead the user to contact you, or buy your product/services.

The CTA doesn’t need to be same on every page, it just needs to be there in some shape or form. You can experiment with various colors, fonts and sizes just be sure to track your progress.
