To Hop, or Not to Hop on the Social Media Bandwagon.

First, Social Media is not a bandwagon that has suddenly become fashionable or popular.

Social media can mark its inception with the first computerized bulletin board system in 1978. In 1994, the first social networking website, Geocities, was founded. Since then, the pace of the technological advances that has allowed for online social networking – such as Facebook and Twitter – has been fast and furious.

Social Media Bandwagon

  • Facebook was launched in 2004 and now has 845 million users.

  • Twitter was born in 2006 and brags over 130 million users.

  • Google+ and Pinterest were launched in 2011 and each boast 90 million and 21 million unique visitors respectively since their launch dates.

If these technologies are advancing this quickly, just think where social media is going to be in 5 years!

Future of BusinessesWhere will your business be in 5 years?

When you started your business, I’m sure you sat down and went through the fundamental exercise of writing a business plan. What is your company’s vision, mission, goals, and strategies etc.. You went through this process in order to tether yourself to your business’s ethos while preparing for growth. Take a moment right now and ask yourself these questions again:

  • Where do I want to be in 5 years?

  • Who will my customers be at that time?

  • Where will my customers and leads come from?

I can tell you with absolute certainty that in 5 years most (if not all) of your customers will be fully engaged with social media. In fact, it is very likely they will have matured alongside the social media tools we use today.

If you want to get their attention then, don’t you think now is the time to build your company’s online presence?
